Here are the top stories today in Buffalo:

1. Kathy Hochul won the race for New York State Governor after replacing Andrew Cuomo following his resignation 14 months ago. Hochul is the first woman to be elected New York Governor and the first upstate Governor in over a century. Hochul took to twitter to say she was "deeply honored to be elected Governor of New York State." For more information, read WIVB 4.
2. The gazebo on the corner of Jefferson and Carlton street, built and used by the Men of the Fruit Belt organization, has been taken down for violating city code. Ronnie Speed, a member of the organization which has been serving the community since the 1980s, says that he feels bullied. Speed followed up, "Whatever we need to do, we’ll do it to reinstall the gazebo for our Fruit Belt community." Earlier this year, the gazebo housed a cookout memorial with a balloon release for the victims of the May 14th mass shooting. Learn more at The Buffalo News.
3. The 1791 Society, a West Seneca based group that advocates to end gun restrictions, donated $11,864 to New York state political candidates this year. Of these donations, $2,990 went to Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns and $2,675 to Republican Governor nominee Lee Zeldin. Read more at WBFO NPR.
4. Buffalo's expanding film scene grew larger yesterday when a crew filmed scenes downtown for a new Mark Wahlberg movie. There were repetitive helicopter flyovers to capture overhead scenes of the waterfront and skyway, which started at 8:00 AM. The working title of the film is "Holiday Road." 5. Representative Brian Higgins won the seat for the 26th Congressional District. Higgins has served as a member of the House of Representatives for the past 17 years and was challenged by Republican Steven Sams. Read more at WKBW 7.
