Here are the top three stories in Buffalo today:
- Cedric Lipford, a 12-year-old boy from Buffalo, was playing when his 10-year-old friend began struggling to breathe. His throat closed due to an allergic reaction to a peanut and Lipford performed CPR on the friend, ultimately bringing him back to life. Lipford and his brother walked the boy home where his mother took over care. Lipford says he learned CPR by watching tv. (WKBW 7 News Buffalo)
- Eight Days of Hope has completed its third annual outreach in Buffalo on Jul. 23. 1,300 participants attended over the eight-day period to serve the Fillmore district. Volunteers repaired porches, installed drywall, painted homes, worked on roofs, removed trees, repaired fences, and landscaped. Their work totaled over $1.3 million. (Niagara Frontier Publications)
- Bird Island Pier is receiving some much-needed repairs. After moving and securing tons of concrete, the pier will be fully open in the fall of 2022. The popular waterfront destination, just two miles from downtown Buffalo, has not been fully open since it was badly damaged by a storm in 2019. (WGRZ.com)

- Strong Hearts, which opened in Syracuse in 2008, is coming to Buffalo. Owner Joel Capolongo says he'd like to bring vegan food to the area, which he feels is underserved. (WGRZ.com)
- This Saturday, the Queen City Jazz Fest will be honoring the history of Buffalo jazz music. For the first time ever, the festival will take place in front of Central library. (Spectrum News)
