  1. Jason L. Tyus was indicted for two more burglaries, totaling five he has pleaded guilty to since February. The two newest burglaries, involving breaking windows and opening the cash register at two different locations, were committed on Jul. 31. At the time of the burglaries, Tyus was waiting for sentencing for his burglaries on Feb. 10, Feb. 12, Mar. 9, and Apr. 8. He faces up to seven years in prison. (WIVB.com - News 4)
  2. The Erie County Parks Department has warned Fall Fest vendors to be on the lookout for vendor scams. The Parks Department instructed all vendors to make sure they register through the form on the department's website. Vendors should then mail the form with a check or money order to the department. The Fall Fest is scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 15 at Como Lake Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (WGRZ.com)
  3. Someone in Buffalo discovered the original Purple Heart documents for U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Adam Strauch in their attic. Using Western New York residents and genealogy resources, they were able to locate the next of kin and present them with the forms in a special ceremony. The items included the original Purple Heart certificate, a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol, and a letter from President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Congressman Brian Higgins reached out to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor and expedited a request to enter the veteran into the hall. (Spectrum News)
