2.) Geico workers are attempting to form a union in Amherst, NY in response to changing work responsibilities, poor COVID-19 reimbursement, and cut or reduced benefits. If successful, unionization would extend to about 2,500 Buffalo workers. Geico is countering these efforts, going as far to argue that employees should call the police on their coworkers if they are asked to sign a petition.
3.) The Buffalo Common Council is in favor of purchasing LED lighting for the city’s streetlights. LED lighting would be both energy saving and cost saving for Buffalo. Mayor Byron Brown announced that the city was looking into this lighting alternative three years ago, in 2019. Since then, negotiations have been under way.
4.) In the governor’s press conference, she also announced new availability of COVID-19 booster shots. Boosters are available to anyone who has a complete original vaccine and or has gotten any booster in the past two months. The new boosters are better equipped to protect against the new Omicron variant.
5.) A new Buffalo company, Went, is focused on bringing in-person souvenir tickets back into popular culture, starting with Bills fans. Went’s first tickets are on sale now, featuring art by local artists. "In a digital-first world, the days of keeping physical tickets as timeless memories have faded – or not even existed for some," Dan Gigante, co-founder of the company, says. Custom tickets are on sale now.
