New York Weather: Up To 13" Snow Forecast For Buffalo, Syracuse
As a winter storm system moves into New York, much of the state will see rain, snow, and treacherous travel as the week comes to an end.

BUFFALO, NY — A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of New York as a huge swath of the United States braces for a significant winter weather system that's predicted to put millions of Americans in the path of heavy snow and freezing rain.
On Wednesday, a previous winter storm watch was upgraded to a warning for northern portions of upstate New York. The warning, in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Friday, includes Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties, according to the National Weather Service office in Burlington.
The warning also includes the cities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

As the system moves in, rain will transition to wet snow between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesday with an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches by the Thursday morning commute.

Snow will continue Thursday with another 2 to 5 inches of accumulation by sunset and another 3 to 5 inches Thursday night into Friday morning. Minor accumulations are possible Friday.
The following warnings are also in effect:
- Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis and Ontario counties are under a winter storm warning from 1 a.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 13 inches are expected.
- Orleans, Monroe, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston and Allegany counties are under a winter storm warning from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Friday. This includes the city of Rochester. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected.
- Oneida, Yates, Seneca, southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Tompkins, Madison, and Cortland are under a winter storm warning from 1 a.m. Thursday through 3 p.m. Friday. This warning includes the city of Syracuse. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected.
- Chemung, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga and Broome counties are under a winter storm warning from 9 a.m. Thursday through 3 p.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches are expected.
The storm will likely make travel difficult at times, especially during the Thursday and Friday commutes.
