New York Weather: Winter Storm Could Bring Snow, Ice To Syracuse

A winter storm watch is in effect from 1 a.m. Thursday until 3 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

BUFFALO, NY — The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a winter storm watch for parts of central New York as forecasters keep their eyes on a system expected to move into the state Wednesday.

A watch is in effect from 1 a.m. Thursday until 3 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton. The system could bring a mix of ice and heavy snow to the state, dumping more than 9 inches in some areas.

Light precipitation is expected to move into the region Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible, according to the National Weather Service. Snow is expected to develop Thursday afternoon and continue into Friday morning.

Currently, the watch includes the cities of Syracuse, Utica, and Ithaca, as well as surrounding communities.

Conditions could affect the morning and evening commute on Thursday as well as Friday's morning commute.
