Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo:
- Buffalo's outdoor swimming pools will not be opening this summer. According to officials, the failure to open is due to a shortage of certified lifeguards. To help with the shortage, Mayor Brown is asking the Buffalo Common Council to raise the pay for lifeguards from $16 to $20 per hour. The city will also be offering free lifeguard training to encourage more people to sign up. The Cazenovia Pool and Lovejoy Pool will be opening, however, as both indoor pools can be fully staffed. - An abandoned home on Hopkins Street is becoming a safety hazard for neighbors. According to a neighbor, the home has fallen into such disrepair that it threatens to collapse, and the property is attracting mice and other health concerns. Councilman Bollman's office said that the home was ordered to be boarded and the situation would be reviewed by an assessor. (WKBW 7 News Buffalo)
- Two people are in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting in the 200 block of Franklin Street. According to police, the shooting happened at the site of a large gathering early in the morning on Monday. As of Tuesday afternoon, police are still asking anyone with information to come forward.
