Here are the top stories today in Buffalo:

1. The Climate Action Council is meeting later this month to discuss and approve the final version of a plan that phases out fossil fuels in all New York homes and buildings. The plan lays out that starting in 2025, all new homes in NYS will not be allowed to install appliances powered by oil or propane. Then, from 2030 onward, any existing homeowner will no longer be allowed to replace their fossil-fuel powered appliances, having to switch to a zero-emission system as well. By 2050, this proposal would aim to reduce greenhouse gas commissions by 85%. Read The Buffalo News to learn more.
2. An online art auction, Sunflowers of Solidarity, runs today through December 10th to raise funds for Ukraine. This is the second Sunflower of Solidarity art auction; the first occurred in April to raise funds to make individualized first aid kids. To learn more about the auction, visit WIVB 4.
3. Buffalo mom Brandie Jones and her 15-year-old daughter spend the weekend moving into their new Habitat for Humanity home. The east side house was started in 2019, but renovation was stalled due to the pandemic. Stephanie Lawson, the Habitat for Humanity Buffalo director of development and communication, reflected that it was a great feeling knowing this family finally received keys just in time for the holiday season. 4. The proposed New York State Thruway toll increase is making citizens of Grand Island speak out. "I’m upset with anyone who is trying to propose increases," Grand Island man Roger Greinert says. Karen Mahoney adds, "It seems like it’s always being taken out of our pockets and I think they should find another way to fund the roads." This increase would be the first one since 2010 and the funds would be used to pay off debt and keep up with infrastructure. Learn more about the proposal at WIVB 4.
5. Car thefts are happening in high numbers between Hertel Ave and Linden Ave in North Buffalo. All the cars that have been stolen were either Kias or had key fobs left in them. Visit WKBW 7 for more information.
