  1. Later today, the school-board will vote on a proposal that the public school system purchases more than $3 million of security equipment. While at first that price tag may seem like too much, it is important to note that there have been two stabbings in the past calendar year at two separate schools, as well as a shooting. John Elmore, an attorney who represents the two students victim to stabbing, says "when you send your child to school, you expect your child to come home safe. It shouldn't be a place where there are guns, where there are stabbings, where there are fights and assaults. The City of Buffalo School System has to step up." Read more in Olivia Proia's article for WKBW 7.
  2. Yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law various measures to help victims of domestic violence. Two of the new laws state that guns must be turned over by someone subject to a protective order if the court demands so and that health insurance companies must allow survivors of domestic violence the option of providing alternative contact information for access to claims and benefits. Read the other laws and learn more at Spectrum Local News.
  3. After examining the role of online platforms in the Buffalo mass shooting, New York Attorney General Letitia James concludes that fringe online platforms, such as 4chan and Reddit, were used to radicalize and publicize the shooter. As a result, James is calling for federal and state reforms that include adding restrictions to live-streaming and creating liability for the distribution of videos involving homicide, among more. Learn more about the online platform investigation at WKBW 7.
  4. West Herr Auto Group is donating $2,000,017 to the Patricia Allen Fund to benefit Oishei Children's Hospital. The Patricia Allen Fund was created by quarterback Josh Allen in honor of his late grandmother who spent most her life working with children. This is the largest donation the fund has received since it was started in 2020, and it will be used towards the pediatric trauma units, medical equipment, training, and care for children that is not reimbursed by insurance. West Herr is following in the tradition of donations by ending the donation with a 17, the number Allen sports on the Bills field. Read more at WGRZ.
  5. Buffalo's special performance of the musical Evita will come to Shea's the first week of November. The event will star both Buffalo actors, as well as Tony-award winning Broadway actors. The celebration will be accompanied by Buffalo Public School choruses and a Bills-mafia style "musical theater tailgate." The event has been created by Starring Buffalo to add to their existing programming. Learn more at Buffalo Rising.
