Here are the top three stories in Buffalo today:

  1. Is there a way to keep Buffalo cool? Some community members have an idea. After the announcement that the city's outdoor pools cannot be safely staffed due to a shortage of lifeguards, a Change.org petition was created to turn a pool at Crowley Playground into a splash pad. Demetrius Borden, who supports the measure, says that it would give the kids something to do in the summer. City council member Joseph Golombek encourages anyone who supports the measure to show up to a meeting hosted by the Black Rock Alliance on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m. to voice their support. The location of the meeting has not yet been determined. (WKBW 7 News Buffalo)
  2. A man was arrested and charged for punching a federal officer on Tuesday. According to U.S. Attorney Trini Ross's office, the man attempted to enter the FBI's Buffalo Division around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday and was denied entry to the building. The man apparently began yelling at security guards th "The FBI is screwing with me!" He then struck a security officer and was pepper sprayed and subdued. (WGRZ.com)
  3. Residents had the opportunity to give feedback on the future of Scajaquada Expressway. The city held a public hearing at Canisius College on Wednesday, where people spoke out on their opinions of the four options. The plans include full removal, partial removal through Delaware Park, replacing the expressway with an at-grade road, and simply making adjustments to the road as it exists. Public comments are still open for anyone wishing to make their voice heard. Click the link to join the conversation. (WIVB.com - News 4)
