  1. Community Preservation Partners and Orbach Affordable Housing Solutions, two separate national housing developers, are both currently asking Erie County for tax exempt bonds. The tax exempt bonds, which would total to more than $46 million, would allow both projects to receive low-income housing tax credits from the state. Learn more at The Buffalo News.
  2. The New York State Department of Transportation is hiring nearly 90 people in Western New York, and over 600 across New York State. To apply you must be over 18 and pass a physical and a drug test. There are both permanent and seasonal jobs open. Learn more about applications at WKBW 7.
  3. In the eight counties that make up WNY, there are 5 100 watt solar panels to help meet green energy goals. Neighbors of these panels are concerned about what they will do for their property value and agricultural production. Read more about the controversy at The Buffalo News.
  4. This Saturday is Evans Bank’s 15th annual ‘Walk of Hunger,’ a FeedMoreWNY fundraiser designed to fight food-insecurity in Buffalo, NY. President of FeedMore WNY and CEO Tara A. Ellis notes, “Sadly, the rate of food insecurity is 25% higher in Western New York than it is for all of New York state.” Find out more details about the fundraiser at Niagara Frontier Publications.
  5. Bakers Men, a local Lancaster bakery, is competing in the Food Network’s “Halloween Cookie Challenge.” Brian Muffoletto, the representative baker, also appeared on the Food Network in 2020. See his designs and read more at WGRZ 2.
