Here are the top stories in Buffalo today:
- Mayor Byron Brown will attend the signing of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act at the White House today. The event will be the official passage of the gun safety bill prompted by the Tops Shooting, among other incidents of gun violence across the country. Also present at the event will be Tops employee Jerome Bridges, who led others to safety during the mass shooting. (Spectrum News)
- A 14-year-old was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle on Saturday. According to police, suspects had been going through unlocked vehicles and garages in Wheatfield. Two vehicles were spotted by police running through a red light, then fled and ultimately crashed. At about 4:00 a.m., police arrested the teen, who was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree unlawful fleeing. (WGRZ.com)
- Police body camera footage has been released of a wild car chase that took place in March. According to video footage, the chase began when the suspect was pulled over and informed of suspended registration due to a lapsed insurance policy. The driver then sped off and led police on a chase that ended after the suspect was shot multiple times by police, who fired at him from their own vehicles during the chase.
