- In April of 2024, Buffalo will be in the national spotlight for going entirely dark during the eclipse. The city should prepare for tens to hundreds of thousands of tourists coming to Western New York to witness this event. With eighteen months left to prepare, Buffalo Rising is proposing we begin asking the hard preparatory questions, including should schools be closed and how can we best limit traffic, now. - The Depew DMV will temporarily close for renovations on Wednesday October 5th. According to Erie County Clerk Michael Kerns, renovations will include new floors, fresh paint, public restrooms, and re-designing the layout of the office. The DMV should reopen before the end of 2022. Learn more at WKBW 7.
- Former Western New York residents living in Florida are reporting back the effects of Hurricane Ian. Anna Greco from Clarence fortunately didn’t lose much, but talks of neighbors in cities over, “I mean these people have nothing, they have no electricity, they have lost their homes, everything.” Similarly, Amanda Tilly from Buffalo speaks of her experience during the hurricane, when she hid with her family in the master bedroom closet for about six hours, “The wind was so loud, I thought our house was going to blow away, or the roof would come off.” Read more and find out about donations at WIVB 4.
- Five Points Framing, a growing frame shop business, is reopening downtown. Co-owners, Chelsea Black and Abby Spindelman, are excited about their new location as it offers more workshop space and the option to collaborate with other creative businesses downtown, among other perks. They will celebrate their grand (re)opening with the public on the evening of Friday, October 14th. More information can be found at Buffalo Rising.
- Colleen Wheeler, a 43-year-old woman from Hamburg, was arraigned this past Friday with one count of grand larceny in the third degree for stealing money from a youth hockey team.
