PHOTOS: Bushwick's Maria Hernandez Park To Get Its First High-Rise
An 11-story apartment building with retail and offices is coming to Knickerbocker right across the street from the park.
BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Maria Hernandez Park is getting an 11-story high-rise apartment building just across the street from the park.
You read that right — Bushwick is officially becoming the new Williamsburg, right before our eyes. The new building design by Nataliya Donskoy of ND Architecture & Design was revealed in 2014, and it has since been approved by the city. The building at 260 Knickerbocker Ave. will house the church that is currently on the property, Iglesia Bautista Central, in the basement. There will be offices and retail on the first floor, parking, and 53 apartments above the first floor. The new construction will rise above the existing building's structure, according to renderings obtained by CityRealty.

ND Architecture & Design's website mistakenly refers to the building as located in Greenpoint, and on a quiet block. Bushwick residents will tell you Maria Hernandez Park is a central location in Bushwick, and it's not exactly quiet. Eleven stories of residents and retail will likely add its own level of noise as well.
