  1. Valerie Sanks of Rocky Point, who volunteers at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter, honored the late Betty White by organizing a hotel sleepover for Cerina, a senior dog, a 'golden girl,' that would love a night out of the shelter. Sanks booked a room at a La Quinta hotel for Feb. 20 and soon, friends were all pitching in to donate treats for Cerina, as well as food, T-shirts, and other surprises. Thank you, Valerie, for your kindness! (Center Moriches-Eastport Patch)

Eric Westby, a 46-year-old man who lives at the house, was killed, police said, while the other victim, a woman who also lives there, was pistol-whipped. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. (LongIsland.com)
