1. According to Suffolk County Police, Salvador Zarate-Mozo, 46, of Bay Shore was the man who died in the single-vehicle crash on Sunrise Highway east of exit 59. The accident happened in Center Moriches at 5:25 a.m., Thursday morning. Zarate-Mozo was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima eastbound on Sunrise Highway, east of exit 59, when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree on the south side of the road, police said. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752. (Center Moriches-Eastport Patch)
2. The price of natural gas spiked in February; gas customers face a $19.73 increase in their bills this month after a market trading anomaly led to a price increase, National Grid announced. For those who heat with fuel oil, Newsday reported last month that prices hit an 8-year high of $4.02 per gallon on Long Island, also reflecting market volatility tied to geopolitical and demand issues in a colder-than-expected winter. 3. Late Wednesday night a 17-year-old driver was driving a Honda CRV eastbound on Sunrise Highway, east of exit 39 in North Babylon, around 10:10 p.m. Suddenly, gunfire erupted from the passenger side of a black vehicle passing the teen on the left, police said. The teen was able to call 911 to report the shooting, according to officials. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said early Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. (CBS New York)
