Brooklyn Teacher Sexually Abused Student For Months, NYPD Says

Mervyn Affoon, 65, was a teacher at the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism inside of Erasmus Hall.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A teacher at a Brooklyn high school sexually abused a student for months, according to police.

Mervyn Affoon, 65, taught at the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism inside of Erasmus Hall in Flatbush.

He carried on a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student for "months," an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch. It started with inappropriate touching and "it went further" from there, police said.

Affoon was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with a range of crimes, including forcible touching and sex abuse, police said.

The Department of Education did not immediately return a request for comment from Patch.
