New York law mandates all drivers yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

This fatal crash comes weeks after Mayor Eric Adams came to an intersection in Prospect Park South — less than two miles away — to announce a massive overhaul of dangerous intersections across the city.

"These tragedies...they've changed lives," Adams said on the corner of Caton and Coney Island avenues. "These fatalities are happening, these injuries are happening, merely because people want to cross the street."
