90-minute walking tour explores how faith, folklore, and social change 
shaped the city’s idea of Christmas, from colonial rituals to the 
creation of Santa Claus and beyond.
Walk through Lower Manhattan’s oldest streets and churchyards to see 
how centuries of faith, power, and change shaped the city’s idea of 
Christmas. This tour offers an evocative look at how New York’s holiday 
spirit was born in unexpected places.
The Dark Christmas Tour runs on weekends until December 28. Advance booking is encouraged as space is limited.

The winter season through most of 18th and 19th centuries in Rockland County began with the holidays of Christmas and New Year’s. These holidays had both secular and religious significance for county residents. Between them they created a holiday week during which the regular routine of farm chores was enlivened by special foods and festivities. In the 49th Annual Holiday Exhibition, "Holidays on the Farm," we explore our county's rich agricultural heritage, highlighting unique features of the holiday season.

The Chaka Khan&nbsp;Foundation&nbsp;in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Partnerships will co-host the second annual UN World Meditation Day on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM to&nbsp;1:00&nbsp;PM EST, bringing together millions worldwide for a shared moment of stillness, reflection, and collective healing. The event will take place at the UN Goals Lounge in New York City and&nbsp;will stream&nbsp;globally via <a href="https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1f/k1fz454xwg" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">UN Web TV</a>. 

Building on the success of last year's inaugural observance, this year's gathering brings together music legend and wellness advocate Chaka Khan, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, spiritual leader Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming, Executive Director of the United Nations Office for partnerships Annemarie Hou, and sound therapist Sara&nbsp;Auster. Together, they will explore how meditation and mindfulness can address today's most urgent challenges, from mental health crises and social isolation to conflict and environmental degradation. 

The afternoon will open with a livestreamed guided meditation led by Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith,&nbsp;followed by a conversation moderated by Gayle King on how inner peace fuels outer change. The discussion will highlight meditation as a practical tool&nbsp;for resilience, compassion, and&nbsp;collective action toward a more just and sustainable world.

If you are in the midst of parenting a child under two years old, this interactive presentation is for you. Spend an evening with two seasoned early childhood educators, Emily Boucher and Amy Mockbee, who have parented and worked with young children themselves. Let’s get real about the joys and challenges of early childhood; learn how you can build the parent-child connection, foster learning, and make these years breezy, not stormy. Meet fellow parents, and give time and space to be perfectly imperfect parents.&nbsp;
For our winter session, we will tackle the day-to-day work of parenting a thriving toddler, particularly as the colder months drag on.&nbsp;
Topics of discussion will include:
