SEE: Ferry Crew Rescues Taxi Thief From Hudson River, NYPD Says
The man jumped into the river after stealing a yellow cab, the NYPD said.

BATTERY PARK CITY, NY — A New York Waterway ferry crew saved a man from drowning after he stole a taxi and jumped into the Hudson River Friday morning, the company and police said. The 58-year-old man is under arrest in Bellevue Hospital, the NYPD said.
The alleged thief stole a yellow cab from in front of 102 North End Ave. in Tribeca at 8:51 a.m., the NYPD said. He drove it three blocks uptown to 22 River Terrace and then jumped in the water, police said.
Two deck hands on the New York Waterway ferry Thomas Kean pulled the unidentified man out of the water after seeing him jump off a seawall near the Battery Park City ferry terminal, the ferry company said.

Another ferry and an NYPD boat also rushed to help "within seconds," a police spokeswoman said. A video posted to Twitter shows the deck hands, Gregorio Pages and Pietro Romano, using a roll-up ladder to pull the man out of the water.
"The crew did an excellent job. They did what they were trained to do," ferry Capt. Dave Dort said in a statement. "For us, this is all in a day's work."

Pages and Romano brought the man back to the terminal, where he was put on an ambulance, according to a New York Waterway news release. Another video by Twitter user Jonathan Otto shows first-responders wheeling the man out of the terminal on a stretcher.
Doctors are evaluating the man but he has not yet been charged, police said.
