2 Officers Injured While Arresting Man: Nassau Police

Police say the man violently resisted, injuring the two officers before they placed him under arrest.

EAST MEADOW, NY — Two officers were injured trying to arrest two men in East Meadow early Tuesday morning, Nassau County police said.

According to police, Bureau of Special Operations officers were trying to perform a traffic stop of a car in the parking lot of the Coliseum Motor Inn, located at 1650 Hemsptead Turnpike in East Meadow, at 1:25 a.m. Police say the car slowed and a man jumped out of the passenger door and ran away.

The officers gave chase and caught up with the man — Ayman Humud, 26, of Westbury Boulevard, Hempstead — and placed him under arrest after he resisted violently, police said.

Police later located the car in front of a home on Coolidge Drive in East Meadow. The driver — Gerald Pierre, 38, of Duryea Avenue, Uniondale — was arrested without incident.

Police say two officers were injured during the arrest of Humud. One officer injured his knee and another hurt his hands. They were both taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police say they also recovered a loaded gun on Humud after his arrest.

Humud is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District court in Hempstead.

Pierre was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 18.
