5 Nassau Police Officers Injured Responding To Fire

Police say the officers were injured while searching a burning home for any occupants.

WESTBURY, NY — Five Nassau County police officers were injured checking the scene of a fire in Westbury Saturday morning.

According to police, officers responded to a house fire at 2369 Stewart Ave. at 9:05 a.m. When they arrived, multiple officers entered the home through a back door to search for anyone in the building.

Four officers suffered smoke inhalation, and one cut his leg while searching the home. All five were taken to a hospital for treatment. No one was in the home, and no one else was injured.

The Westbury Fire Department and five other fire departments responded to the scene and got the blaze under control.

Police say an investigation is ongoing, but the fire is not considered suspicious.
