Nassau Jail Inmate Dies After Being Found Unconscious In Cell: Police

The 45-year-old man is the second inmate to die in the jail in the last few months.

EAST MEADOW, NY — An inmate at the Nassau County Correctional Facility died after he was found unconscious in his cell early Wednesday.

The 45-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell by a correction officer at 12:15 a.m., police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

Police have not yet released the man's name.

This is the second inmate to die in the jail in the last few months. In November, 29-year-old Nikita Pertsev died in his cell after suffering an apparent drug overdose.
