“The Nassau County Police Department, working in partnership with the NYS Office of the Attorney General and District Attorneys Office have sponsored gun buy back programs since 2008," said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. "These events have taken over 4,850 guns off the streets of Nassau County. This reduction of guns in our neighborhoods equates to safer communities for our residents. By using funds from Asset Forfeiture, we are in essence purchasing these weapons with seized funds from criminal activity with no cost to our taxpayers. This program is a win win for all that are involved.”
