Rose Garden Rededication to Honor Organ Donors

The rededication of the Eisenhower Park Rose Garden will honor organ donors and donor families, Nassau County executive Ed Mangano announced.

The ceremony, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, between noon and 2 p.m., is part of the Long Island Transplant Recipients International Organization’s (LITRIO) annual ceremony.

The rose garden is located near parking fields 6 and 6A.

“Each year thousands of people die due to a lack of available organs for transplants,” Mangano said. “Organ and tissue donation can save and improve the lives of family members, friends and neighbors not only in our community but across the nation.”

Elected officials and healthcare professionals, donor families and organ and tissue recipients are among the scheduled speakers.

LITRIO is the local chapter of Transplant Recipients International Organization, an all-volunteer non-profit international organization committed to improving the quality of lives touched by the miracle of transplantation. The organization maintains the rose garden as part of its participation in Nassau County’s Adopt-a-Park Program in recognition and celebration of life giving organ donations, Mangano said.
