Man Shot In Flushing After Dispute, Police Say

A 30-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the calf following a verbal dispute with a group of other men.

FLUSHING, QUEENS — The NYPD is investigating a shooting that left one person injured just blocks away from Flushing Meadows Corona Park, an NYPD spokesman said.

A 30-year-old man was shot around 6 a.m. in the intersection of Maple Avenue and College Point Boulevard following a dispute with another group of men, an NYPD spokesman. Police believe two to four men fled the scene of the shooting, the spokesman said.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the calf and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred when a verbal dispute between the victim and a group of men escalated to violence, an NYPD spokesman said. None of the suspects have been identified or arrested.

Friday morning's shooting is the fifth in Flushing this year, according to the most recent crime statistics from the 109th NYPD Precinct. There were zero shootings in the neighborhood at this time last year, according to the crime stats.
