The NY Post, however, reported that the central Queens man worked for the Brooklyn North Evidence Collection unit.
The reported officer is the third NYPD officer to commit suicide this year, alongside two others who killed themselves in April, the NY Post reported.
In 2019, a year when a record-number of 10 NYPD officers committed suicide, the city established a collaboration between the police department and NewYork-Presbyterian, called 'Finest Care,' which guarantees NYPD members confidential suicide prevention support.
"Historically, members of law enforcement have been reluctant to seek help, seeing themselves as providers, not receivers, of help," said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian, when the Finest Care program launched.
"FINEST CARE can break that cycle," he added.
