City Beaches Open for the Summer on May 25

The city's Parks Department will open all of its beaches on Memorial Day weekend.

It’s time to break out the sunscreen, towels and bathing suits as the city’s beaches will open for the season this coming weekend.

The city Parks Department’s 14 miles of beach, including Queens’ Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk, will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This year’s beach season will kick off on May 25 and run through Labor Day weekend.

But remember – swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections, which are marked with signs or red flags.

Queens residents who want to go for a swim can visit Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk, which is located from Beach 9th Street in Far Rockaway to Beach 149th Street in Neponsit.

Rockaway is a surf beach that includes a boardwalk and concession stand. Bicycling is permitted on weekends and holidays after 10 a.m.

For more information, visit the beaches page on the Parks Department’s website.
