Crime at a Glance: Grand Larceny Rises

After a long good stretch, the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills and Rego Park saw a spike in grand larcenies.

Maybe it's the hot start of summer on the horizon? Maybe it's something else. I dunno. Let's dig into the numbers and see what we can see. 

Ahem: 

• As mentioned, grand larcenies jumped in the area, both in comparison to earlier this year and to last year. There were 10 in the last week, compared to just seven during the same period last year.
• That number forced the 28-day total to 33, also an increase over last year by five.
• Robberies also increased, with three recorded incidents compared to one last year. Those numbers for the month and year are still down, however.
• Sadly, the burglary number went up again. There were four in the area in the most recent week, compared to two last year. For the month that represents a total increase of just over 14 percent, but the yearly total still blows away what happened in 2012.
