KEW GARDENS, QUEENS — An empty lot on the border of Kew Gardens and Forest Hills is slated to become housing.

The lot, located at 81-07 Kew Gardens Road, could become a 51-unit, 8-story apartment building, with commercial space on the ground floor, according to plans filed with the Department of Buildings last Thursday. That application has since been approved, records show.

In response to the news, which was first reported by YIMBY, a neighbor said they were excited to see a building going up in the otherwise unused space.

"Finally something’s going to be done with this eyesore!" they wrote in an area Facebook group.

The 83-foot-tall development, which will be located steps away from the Kew Gardens - Union Turnpike subway station, will have a 30-foot back yard, but no parking spaces, YIMBY reported.
