FOREST HILLS, NY — The Forest Hills Jewish Center will stay standing — for now.

Plans to demolish the Queens Boulevard building and replace it with a 10-story tower, which would've included space for a downsized synagogue, have fallen through, according to news reports.

An unnamed developer that planned to pay the construction costs in exchange for the Jewish center's land is no longer on the job, the Queens Chronicle and the Forest Hills Post reported. It's unclear whether the mysterious development group backed out or was taken off the project.

Under the original plans, the Jewish center would have been demolished this year, according to the Forest Hills Post.

The redevelopment plan has been in the works for almost two decades, the Jewish center's executive director, Deborah Gregor, told the Chronicle last year.

"It’s an old building and things start giving way," Gregor told the Chronicle. "Repairs are very expensive and the congregation has had a hard time covering those expenses."

The Jewish center is now prepping a request for new proposals, Gregor told the Forest Hills Post.
