IKEA chose to set up shop in the Rego Center to make the store accessible to Queens residents using public transportation, according to Sykes.
The mall, located at Queens Boulevard and Junction Boulevard, is served by the E, M and R subway lines.
Manhattan's first IKEA store opened in April on the Upper East Side.
The small-format location, called a "planning studio," allows shoppers to browse a number of pre-arranged rooms and get items shipped to their homes.
