Man Hit And Killed By School Bus Driver In Middle Village: Cops
A school bus driver fatally struck an 83-year-old man as he crossed the street in Middle Village Wednesday morning, police said.

MIDDLE VILLAGE, QUEENS — An elderly man was hit and killed by a yellow school bus as he crossed the street in Middle Village Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The school bus driver was heading south on 73rd Place just after 8:30 a.m. when she turned left onto 67th Drive and crashed into 83-year-old Bing Nuan Chen, according to a police spokesperson.
EMS pronounced Chen dead on the scene, blocks away from his Middle Village home, police said.

There were no children on the school bus at the time of the crash, NYC Department of Education spokesperson Miranda Barbot said.
The driver, 56, who works for First Steps Transportation Inc., hasn't been charged in connection with the crash, according to police. She was immediately suspended by the education department, pending the outcome of a thorough investigation, Barbot said.

First Steps Transportation, which is based in Brooklyn, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Neighbors have said 73rd Place, a two-way street that has no traffic signals or stop signs for blocks, is notorious for speeding drivers.
In August, three teenage girls were injured after their car crashed into a utility pole by 73rd Place and Cook Avenue, just four streets down from Wednesday's fatal crash.
