REGO PARK, QUEENS — A rabbi is planning to build a new synagogue in Rego Park, according to a news report and city records.
Rabbi David Akilov filed plans with the city's buildings department earlier this month to construct a three-story synagogue at 85-94 66th Road, the Forest Hills Post reported Tuesday.
The new building would include a 5,242-square-foot synagogue and a 1,580-square-foot apartment, the filings show.

Its first floor would house a worship area, and the second floor would have offices, waiting areas and a lecture room, according to the plans. The apartment would be on the third floor.
Akilov bought the building in February for $950,000, city records show.

The rabbi started a fundraiser in April to pay for the new synagogue, writing, "We are building this in the neighborhood where there is no synagogue."
He raised just under $3,000 of his $400,000 goal, according to the GoFundMe page.
