With new pubs, restaurants and eateries opening in Forest Hills on an almost weekly basis, we decided to brave the crappy weather Wednesday and give a couple a try.
First up: Banter Irish Pub on Queens Blvd.
Points for: big atmosphere upgrade over Old Vienna Cafe.
Solid, if not huge beer selection.
Lots of Irish whiskey, which seems to be very "in" around Austin Street lately.
TV tuned to soccer. An Irish pub must.
Points against: For whatever reason, this location - on a busy street, next to a movie theater, close to other restaurants - cant seem to find success.
Not sure what they were going for with the decor, man. It's very "IKEA does Ireland."
Music highlight: Springsteen, duh
Music lowlight: Crash Test Dummies. Seriously. Never again.
Grade: Solid B+, assuming the Queens Boulevard curse doesn't get them. I deducted points for the Crash Test Dummies - not really their fault, but them's the breaks.
