Apartment Building Could Replace Shuttered Clinton Hill School: Permit

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — A shuttered Clinton Hill school could soon be replaced with an apartment building, permits show.

The proposed 83-foot-tall building on Irving Place between Putnam Avenue and Fulton Street could include 32 apartments, plans filed with the Department of Buildings last week show.

Located at 87 Irving Place, the proposed apartment building would replace what was once The Co-op School, a Pre-K through middle school that stood at the site for about a decade before relocating to neighboring Bedford-Stuyvesant in 2019.

The developer will probably not need to demolish the existing structure, since the plan is considered a building expansion — an upward expansion, to be exact, which would bring the building from four to seven stories.

News of the proposed apartment building comes about a month after the building at 87 Irving Street was sold for $8.25M to a real estate entity (87 Irving Realty LLC; the buyer signature is illegible) that shares an address with Bedrock realty, according to property records.

Bedrock realty specializes in boutique homes and apartments in Brooklyn, according to its website.

The could-be apartment building on Irving Street is the latest of several nearby, new developments, including a proposed apartment building that could replace a Fort Greene laundromat.
