Brooklyn Hospital Signs Lease For New Fulton St Location: Reports

FORT GREENE, NY — Brooklyn Hospital leased space to anchor a new building on Fulton Street after they sold their nearby spot overlooking Fort Greene Park for about $100 million, Crain's New York reported.

The medical center will take about 70,000-square-feet of space at 620 Fulton St. and signed a lease to take over six floors for 10-years, according to Crain's.

The news comes almost a week after the hospital agreed to sell their 420 Willoughby St. building, which houses their Family Medicine Center, to developer Rabsky Group for about $100 million. The sale also included the parking garage next door to the building for an undisclosed amount of money.

The sale of the Willoughby Street building, known as the Maynard Building, hinges on Rabsky being allowed to increase the zoning on the site to build more residential units than currently allowed, according to Crain's.

The Maynard Building was originally put up for sale in 2016 with the hospital planning to use the money to build new facilities on its campus.

"Our catchment area reaches 1 million lives in Northern and Central Brooklyn and no one is more intimately familiar with their health needs than The Brooklyn Hospital Center," a spokeswoman for the hospital said in a statement.

"These needs include sickle-cell anemia, and high rates of hepatitis C, diabetes, obesity, infant mortality and heart disease. To ensure the health of these communities, we’ll be transforming our main campus to provide Downtown Brooklyn and the surrounding area the care it needs."
