New Luxury Condo Tower in Downtown Brooklyn Has Its Own Subway Entrance

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, NY — Residents of a new luxury condo tower opening this Spring in Downtown Brooklyn won't be forced to make the grimy, bummy, two-block trek to the Jay Street-MetroTech subway station every time a conference room or cocktail bar beckons from Manhattan.

Brooklyn Paper was first to report Friday that Avalon Communities, the developer behind the block-wide condotropolis rising on Willoughby Street between Bridge and Duffield, is building its own subway entrance near the corner of Willoughby and Bridge.

Sources familiar with the project told Patch that condo dwellers from both AVA DoBro and Avalon Willoughby Square, the two conjoined developments on the lot, will have access to the subway entrance. It will feature a staircase and an elevator, they said, both of which will lead directly down to the R Train platform and connect to the A, C and F Train platforms within the Jay Street-MetroTech station.

Non-residents will be welcome to use the entrance as well, our sources said.

Serendipitously, all this fanciness is going down at the same Avalon Communities construction site where a young builder from Queens whipped out his cellphone camera last September and caught a white guy in activewear telling another white guy with a baby stroller: "The only reason white people like you are living here is because I settled this f------ neighborhood for you!”

Rental prices at AVA DoBro run from around $2,500 for a tiny studio to around $5,750 for a three-bedroom. (Prices haven't yet been listed for Avalon Willoughby Square, which opens to renters sometime this Spring.)

Also included in the Avalon package: a heated outdoor dog run and pet spa; an enchanted-forest-themed children’s playroom; and an on-site bicycle repair station. No exclusive AVA DoBro Slack channel, though, sad to report.
