Village Board Assignments Announced

As in years past, these assignments were read aloud by the newly sworn in mayor and ratified by the board of trustees.

Annually, the mayor appoints trustees to various committee assignments that he/she believes will be in the best interest of the village.

As in years past, these assignments were read aloud by the newly sworn in mayor and ratified by the board of trustees at the annual organizational meeting held April 1. (Last year's assignments sparked controversy amongst board members. See that full story here.)

This year, executive staff positions were not appointed and ratified because the board is still reviewing a number of appointments, i.e. village counsel, village historian, etc. Trustees will likely finish the process at the next scheduled board meeting April 18. Traditionally the executive staff appointments are for two years, to coincide with the mayor's term.

Trustee assignments for the 2013-14 fiscal year are as follows:

Trustee Nick Episcopia, whose term expires in April 2014, is deputy mayor, liaison to Cultural & Recreational Affairs and the Traffic Commission and a member of the Committee on Public Information (chair).

Trustee Andrew Cavanaugh, whose term also expires in April 2014, will serve as police commissioner, liaison to the Garden City Historical Society and the Garden City Bird Sanctuary, a member of the Traffic Commission, Finance and Audit Committee, the Committee on Public Information, the Committee to Fill Vacancies on Boards and Commissions (chair) and the Committee to Review Legal Counsel (chair).

Trustee Dennis Donnelly, whose term expires in April 2015, will serve as fire commissioner, liaison to the business community and as a member of the Technology Committee and the Executive Staff Compensation Committee (chair).

Trustee Brian Daughney, whose term expires in April 2014, will serve as commissioner of Building & Planning, liaison to the Planning Commission, Architectural Design Review Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Garden City Library board and the Garden City Board of Education and as a member of the Committee on Public Information, the Executive Staff Compensation Committee and the Committee to Review Legal Counsel.

Trustee John DeMaro, whose term expires in April 2015, will serve as Public Works commissioner, liaison to senior citizen affairs, a member of the Traffic Commission (chair), the Committee to Fill Vacancies on Boards and Commissions and the Committee to Review Legal Counsel.

Trustee Robert Bolebruch, a newcomer to the board first elected in March and whose term will expire in April 2014, will serve as a member of the Environmental Advisory Board, the Traffic Commission, the Committee to Fill Vacancies on Boards and Commissions and the Finance and Audit Committee (chair) and liaison to the Long Island Rail Road Third Track Committee.

Trustee Richard Silver, also a newcomer to the board first elected in March and whose term will expire in April 2015, will serve as finance commissioner and as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and the Executive Staff Compensation Committee.
