Duo Broke Into Elementary School, Found Hiding In Closet: NCPD
Police charged the two with burglary for breaking into the school late Wednesday night.

UNIONDALE, NY — Two people were arrested in Uniondale Wednesday night after police say they broke into an elementary school.
According to police, officers responded to California Avenue Elementary School, located at 236 California Ave., after an alarm was set off shortly before midnight. The officers searched the building, and police say they found Avery Merchant, 32, and Kelley Carbery, 36, hiding in a closet in one of the classrooms.
They were both arrested without incident.

Both Merchant and Carbery are charged with third-degree burglary and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Merchant is also charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny.
They are both scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
