Employee Beaten During Nassau Gas Station Robbery: Police

The man swiped a drink and cigarettes from the Sunoco on Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale, police said.

UNIONDALE, NY — A gas station was robbed in Uniondale, police said. Just before 2 a.m. on Friday, a man entered the Sunoco gas station on Hempstead Turnpike. He attempted to buy a drink and two packs of cigarettes but his credit card was declined, police said.

Instead, the man took the drink without paying for it. He tried to leave, but was stopped by the 65-year-old male employee, authorities said.

An altercation ensued as the employee was punched in the face and chest before kicking him after getting pushed to the ground, police said.

Before fleeing on Cunningham Avenue, the man took the two packs of cigarettes that he initially attempted to purchase. The victim was treated on scene by responding Nassau County Police Medics.

The investigation is ongoing. Police released a photo from the gas station surveillance video showing the person, who is sought by police.

The man, in his thirties, is approximately 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. In the video, he was wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie, blue jeans, black shoes and a green backpack, police said.
