6 Things You Should Know About the First Day of School

Today Garden City public and private schools will welcome back hundreds of students and teachers. Here are six things you should know about the first day back:

  • Garden City schools welcomes 15 new teachers and one school nurse to the district. To read more about the new staff members, click here.
  • The 2013-2014 Garden City public schools calendar is posted online under the “Quick Links,” “Calendar” tab. Parents only should have received a hard copy of the calendar in the mail. Additional calendars are available for pick up (while supplies last) at the Administration Building, 56 Cathedral Avenue.
  • At. St. Anne's School, some school districts may not have bus transportation this week. School officials ask that you check with your local school district for bus availability and send a note with each child informing the school of how he/she will be getting home from school. Please include the name of your public school district and bus number (if you know it) in the note.
  • At St. Joseph School, Grades 1-8 will be dismissed at 11 a.m. (Kindergarten - Conference Day; Pre-K - Conference Day; Nursery - No School / No Conferences.)
  • Beginning at 8:30 a.m. the Waldorf School of Garden City will host an opening day assembly, to include the rose ceremony in which high school seniors welcome new first graders into the lower school. Refreshments will be served in the Main Entrance Lobby prior to the assembly.
  • At Waldorf School, the Garden City Police Department extended special "Event Parking" for Tuesday only. Visitors may park along the north and south sides of Cambridge Avenue all the way to Nassau Boulevard. (All Adelphi University parking lots are closed to all non-Adelphi community members.)
