Trojans defeat Irondequoit, 11-4, to win New York State Championship.

Garden City's varsity boys lacrosse team travelled to the Hudson Valley Saturday and returned home with a New York State Championship.
The Trojans defeated the Irondequoit Eagles, 11-4, Saturday evening in the Class B NYS finals held at Middletown High School.
After letting the championship slip away in the final round during the past two seasons, Garden City High School's boys finally captured its fifth state title.

Just like in the where the Trojans defeated Yorktown, 14-4, Coach Steve Finnell's boys held their opponent to only four goals and put together an impressive performance on offense too.
Virginia-bound goalie Dan Marino had eight saves for the day, all during the second quarter, in what Inside Lacrosse dubbed "an unbelievable display."

"The Trojans received what might have been one of its more difficult tests of the season in an athletic, hungry and skilled Eagles squad out of the Rochester area. But Garden City used a strong day at the face-off X and an enormous second-quarter performance from All-American netminder Dan Marino to pull away for the victory over a team that knocked off Garden City’s 2010 and 2011 state final foe, Jamesville-DeWitt of Section III," wrote Inside Lacrosse's Casey Vock.
Game MVP Devin Dwyer had two goals and four assists. Patric Berkery netted three goals, and Rob Savage and Justin Guterding each scored two. Two goals also came off the sticks of Liam Kennedy, who had two assists, and Cody George.
