Garden City Cars Hit By Gunfire From Hempstead: Police

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending June 21.

June 15

  • Officers investigated two attempts to cash fraudulent checks against a government account. There is no loss at this time.
  • A fraudulent credit card account was reportedly opened using a victim’s identification without permission.
  • A driver on Clinton Avenue at Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and unsafe turn.
  • Officers responded to a report of two damaged vehicles in the driveway of a Meadow Street residence. Upon investigation, it was determined the vehicles were damaged by a stray bullet from a shooting scene on Lafayette Street in Hempstead. The investigation is ongoing by Garden City, Nassau County and Hempstead Village police.
  • A driver on 6th Street was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration, and tinted windows.
  • A package delivered to a Mulberry Avenue residence was reported missing.

  • Officers and NYU responded to Clinton Road where a fallen tree limb damaged two moving vehicles. One of the drivers suffered facial and chest injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
  • A resident received an email appearing to be a bill from a legitimate vendor. She called the number to protest the bill and provided personal information. It was later determined the information was illegally used to transfer funds from her bank account to an unknown account.
  • A driver on 1st Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • A driver on Clinton Road and Brook Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and unregistered auto.
  • A 31-year-old driver was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash that occurred at Garden City Plaza earlier in the day.

June 17

  • A driver on 6th Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
  • A truck struck the Cherry Valley overpass. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
  • A man stole property from Walgreens and fled the scene on foot.
  • A woman reported her cell phone was stolen while attending an event at the Garden City Hotel.
  • Items were reported stolen from vehicles parked in a Tanners Pond Road driveway.
  • Garden City Detectives arrested a 31-year-old man for punching a male victim in the face causing multiple injuries during a May 12 road rage incident. He was charged with assault.

June 18

  • Garden City detectives conducted an investigation on Stewart Avenue resulting in the arrest of a 45-year-old man for criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and a 67-year-old male for criminal facilitation.
  • As a result of a domestic incident investigation at a Cambridge Avenue residence, officers arrested a man for trespassing on a residential property and attempting to enter the home without permission. He was charged with attempted criminal trespass and trespass.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.
  • A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and a suspended registration.
  • Officers responded to Salisbury Avenue for a fallen tree limb in the roadway. They also responded to Chestnut Street for a broken tree limb blocking a sidewalk. The Parks Department was notified in both incidents for branch removal.

June 19

  • A 72-year-old man was arrested on 7th Street for threatening harm to a person and his dog. He was charged with Harassment.
  • Officers investigated a report of a man attempting to steal a package from a Lefferts Road porch. The subject dropped the package and fled the scene after being confronted by a neighbor.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

June 20

  • Firefighters and police responded to a residence for an odor of gas. The residents evacuated the home before arrival of the fire department. The condition was corrected, and the occupants returned to the residence.
  • An item was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Hamilton Place.
  • A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
  • A driver on 11th Street was charged with unlicensed operation and unregistered vehicle.

June 21

  • Two drivers were charged with driving trucks in a no commercial vehicle zone on Stewart Avenue.
  • Officers responded to Lefferts Road for a fallen tree limb.
  • Firefighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue business for an alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty detector.
