Garden City Joins Nassau's 4th Of July DWI Crackdown

The initiative will focus on holiday drivers who are intoxicated and drugged.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Village of Garden City is joining other police departments across Nassau County to ensure safety for drivers during the July 4th weekend.

The "DWI Crackdown" is an enforcement initiative targeting intoxicated and drugged drivers.

It uses funds from the Nassau County Traffic Safety STOP DWI Program, the New York State STOP DWI Coordinators Association and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

Garden City Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson said: "During this initiative, police officers will monitor the village’s roadways, strictly enforcing all DWI laws."

About 37 people die each day in the U.S. due to drunken driving crashes, or one person every 39 minutes, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. In 2022, the agency said, more than 13,000 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.
