GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 3.
April 27
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and uninspected vehicle.
- A driver on Clinton Road was charged with unlicensed operation and using a portable electronic device.
- The bumper on a vehicle parked in Parking Field 7S was found damaged by unknown means.

- A resident’s credit card information was used to make an unauthorized purchase at a local department store.
- A white SUV left the scene after crashing into another vehicle on Franklin Avenue at Old Country Road.
- A driver on Stewart Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a red traffic light.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and speeding in a school zone.
- Firefighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue building for an alarm and determined the cause to be oven smoke.
April 29
- Officers investigated a report of a damaged door at the Garden City Country Club Half-Way House.
- A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and passing a red traffic light.
- Firefighters and police responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a boiler leak.
- Firefighters and police responded to an apartment for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.
- An unknown vehicle left the scene after striking and damaging another vehicle on the Adelphi University campus.
April 30

- As a result of their participation in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day, the Garden City Police Department collected 200 pounds of unwanted, unused and expired medications and Adelphi University Public Safety collected 102 pounds of medications.
- Firefighters and police responded to Merillon Avenue for a utility pole fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire. A fence and retaining wall were also damaged from the fire.
- Officers are investigating a report of victim’s cell phone service being disconnected due to a remote SIM card swap.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed.
May 1
- Police are investigating a report of a damaged rear glass door at a Franklin Avenue restaurant.
- Detectives arrested a 25-year-old driver for leaving the scene after crashing into a vehicle parked in Field 7N.
- A victim received a message from what appeared to be a friend’s email address asking her to buy gift cards and email the numbers back. The victim complied and later determined it was a scam; the email did not originate from the friend.
May 2
- A person’s identity was used to open an unauthorized credit card account and make subsequent purchases.
- Officers responded to Cherry Valley Avenue where a truck struck the train overpass. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.
- A driver on Clinch Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a Stop sign.
May 3
- Police are investigating the discovery of three credit cards found on the ground on Nassau Boulevard.
- Firefighters and police responded to a Franklin Avenue location where firefighters extinguished a garbage pail fire.
- A driver on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stopped school bus.
- Firefighters and police responded to Adelphi University for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be shower steam.
- A driver on Cathedral Avenue was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed.
