Garden City Police Issue Hundreds Of Tickets Near Schools
The department's crackdown on unsafe driving at the start of the school year resulted in nearly 400 tickets.
GARDEN CITY, NY — Garden City police issued hundreds of tickets during a period of stepped-up enforcement earlier this month.
The GCPD stepped up enforcement of driving violations during the first weeks of school. Officers focused on areas around schools, bus stops and student walking routes.

- Passed red traffic light: 5

- Lane usage/illegal turns: 20
- Disobey traffic signs: 6
- Cell phone violations: 8
- Seatbelt/Child restraint: 5
- Illegal Muffler: 2
- Suspended license/registration: 13

As the school year starts, officials ask drivers to be extra cautious in school zones, and to keep an eye out for children walking and riding bicycles to school.
