Garden City Police Issue Hundreds Of Tickets Near Schools

The department's crackdown on unsafe driving at the start of the school year resulted in nearly 400 tickets.

GARDEN CITY, NY — Garden City police issued hundreds of tickets during a period of stepped-up enforcement earlier this month.

The GCPD stepped up enforcement of driving violations during the first weeks of school. Officers focused on areas around schools, bus stops and student walking routes.

  • Speeding: 62
  • Passed stopped school bus: 5
  • Passed red traffic light: 5
  • Passed stop sign: 14
  • Lane usage/illegal turns: 20
  • Disobey traffic signs: 6
  • Cell phone violations: 8
  • Seatbelt/Child restraint: 5
  • Illegal Muffler: 2
  • Suspended license/registration: 13
  • Driver license violations: 23
  • Registration violations: 15
  • Switch/fraudulent plates: 5
  • Uninsured operation: 30
  • Miscellaneous Violations: 123
  • Total Tickets: 388

As the school year starts, officials ask drivers to be extra cautious in school zones, and to keep an eye out for children walking and riding bicycles to school.
