Garden City Staff Honored by SCOPE

Physical education teacher Michael Caparella and guidance secretary MaryLee Marigliano receive 2013 Awards of Excellence from SCOPE Education Services.


Congratulations to physical education teacher Michael Caparella and guidance secretary MaryLee Marigliano on their 2013 Awards of Excellence from SCOPE Education Services.

Mr. Caperella, the physical education teacher at Hemlock and Locust, was honored with a Teacher Service Award at the March 18 awards dinner held at Villa Lombardi’s.

“Mr.Caparella is a ‘shining star,’” wrote Hemlock principal Audrey Bellovin. “He can be counted on to demonstrate the highest standards of honesty and integrity, and serves as one of the most highly regarded role models for our young students."

Mr. “C,” as he is known by students, has been an employee in Garden City Public Schools since 1983.

Mrs. MaryLee Marigliano began her career in the Garden City school district in 1991 as a clerical substitute and worked as a teacher aide in 1998–1999, until her appointment as a full-time typist clerk in the middle school’s Guidance Department in 1999.

Nominated by guidance director Gina Christel, MaryLee was honored at the SCOPE awards dinner as a support staff “Shining Star.” She was described by Ms. Christel as “the heart of the building - along with her kind and fun-loving ways, she is a hard worker and strives to always be ahead of the curve. We are proud to nominate her for this award!”
