Garden City Teacher Awarded Educator of the Year

The Association of Italian American Educators announced that Garden City teacher Danielle Caruthers is Educator of the Year.

She is teacher of Italian and Spanish at Garden City School District. On a yearly basis, she organizes various excursions with students including plays, cultural events, restaurants, concerts, culinary schools, and walking tours in Little Italy in the Bronx. 

She is a member of AIAE and LILT (Long Island Language Teachers).  She also contributes to the Commission of Social Justice programs to fight the stereotyping of Italian Americans.  Danielle has traveled extensively to Italy, Spain, South America and Mexico to learn more about the cultural aspects that she incorporates in her classroom. 

AIAE will honor all recipients at an awards ceremony on April 28 a the Chateau Briand in Carle Place. The donation for the gala is $85 per person.
