HAZMAT, FBI Investigating Suspicious Powder in E. Garden City

A Nassau County HAZMAT team and a representative from the FBI's joint terrorist attack force was called to East Garden City Wednesday afternoon to investigate a suspicious white powder.

The powder was sent via postal mail along with a threatening letter to the One Main Financial Bank, located at 632 Stewart Ave, next to Tin Alley Grill.

"There is still an ongoing investigation but they deemed that the substance was non-hazardous," Nassau County Police Sgt. Kenneth Ward told Patch.

Ward said that the envelope did display a return address, which he did not disclose, but added, "that doesn't mean that's where it came from."

He said the FBI is in possession of the powder and ultimately the U.S. Postmaster General will also investigate the incident.

Westbury firefighters, Nassau County Police and the Fire Marshal also responded.
